Grand Jury Indicts Man Accused of Robbing Banks in Cumberland County

A man accused of committing two bank robberies last month in Cumberland County NJ was recently indicted by a grand jury.

The first bank robbery went down on May 13 at the TD Bank located on North 2nd Street in Millville, New Jersey. The suspect allegedly entered the bank, approached a teller, and threatened to use a shotgun unless the bank employee handed over cash. The suspect reportedly ended up fleeing the bank in a panic and without getting any money. While leaving, the suspect allegedly stole a motor vehicle from a customer in the bank.

A short time later, the suspect allegedly robbed Cape Bank, which is located on South Delsea Drive in Vineland, NJ. After getting an undisclosed amount of money from a bank employee, the suspect allegedly drove off in the stolen car.

At some point during his getaway, the suspect allegedly switched vehicle by carjacking another person and stealing a pick-up truck near the intersection of Palermo Avenue and Hance Bridge Road.

The suspect was later apprehended by law enforcement when police officers found him in an area located just off Mays Landing Road. When police officers arrested the suspect, they allegedly found him in possession of a shotgun believed to have been used to commit the bank robberies.

The suspect, a 60-year-old man from Mays Landing, NJ, was charged with numerous crimes, including armed robbery, theft of movable property, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The suspect was also charged with carjacking because he allegedly stole the vehicles used as getaway cars during the bank robberies.

Now the suspect is likely headed to trial after being indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury on 10 criminal charges.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of armed robbery, he could end up spending 20 years behind bars. That’s because the NJ Criminal Code classifies a theft committed with a deadly weapon such as a shotgun, handgun, or knife as a first degree felony.

While the suspect awaits resolution of the criminal charges, he is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
