Hamilton Township NJ Police Search for Suspect in Robbery of Mays Landing Bank of America
Police in Hamilton Township NJ are trying to determine the identity of the man who tried to rob the Bank of America in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
The robbery went down around 3:00 p.m. on September 26. According to law enforcement, the suspect walked into the Bank of America located on Route 50 in Mays Landing and approached a bank teller. The suspect reportedly handed the bank employee a note that demanded an unspecified amount of cash. The note indicated that the suspect would harm the worker unless money was handed over.
However, the bank employee did not give the suspect any cash. The suspect then ran out of the bank building and fled the area. It is not yet known whether the suspect left the neighborhood on foot or used a getaway vehicle.
It has been more than a week since the bank robbery attempt, but Hamilton Township detectives have yet to identify the suspect. Now the Hamilton Township Police Department is asking the public for help with the investigation. Anyone who has information about the bank robbery should contact detectives.
If and when the suspect is identified and apprehended by law enforcement, he would likely face criminal charges for robbery. Since no one inside the bank at the time of the attempted theft saw the suspect with a firearm or any other kind of weapon, the suspect would probably be charged with second degree robbery. There is a huge difference between first degree robbery charges and second degree robbery charges because first degree felonies in NJ carry a potential penalty of 20 years behind bars. In this case, a conviction for second degree robbery under N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1 could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
