How to Avoid Getting Pulled Over
Getting pulled over happens to almost everyone at least once. Normally, the reasons for getting pulled over are well known or guessed. Other times, even the officer themselves ask if the person being pulled over knows why they were pulled over. Below are some pointers on how to avoid getting pulled over.
Don’t Speed
Speeding is a surefire way to attract the attention of law enforcement. Speeding can not only be dangerous, it can be useless, too. Studies show that due to the flow of traffic and timing, speeding does not get people where they need to go faster. So despite how fast speeding may be, it’s just not worth it.
Keep Up with Repairs
If a car is not properly maintained, certain things can stand out. A lack of a turn signal, burnt out brake lights, a cracked windshield, and other dangerous damages are sure to get a person pulled over. To avoid this confrontation, one should periodically check their lights and replace them as needed.
Stay Up to Code
An expired license plate, missing tags, tint that is just a bit too dark, a license plate cover that’s a bit too dark – all of these code violations are easy for a police officer or other law enforcer to spot. They raise suspicion and, if left unchecked, could be dangerous. One should take care to check the regulations for such things in their city or county.
Avoid Reckless Driving
Drivers who take to the road recklessly have a much higher chance of getting pulled over than others. A driver who is distracted with cell phone usage or any other glaring distraction that keeps their eyes from the road is very likely to get pulled over. There’s also the concept of weaving in and out of lanes, tailgating and general recklessness. In driving patiently and carefully, one could greatly lower their chances of getting pulled over.
Law enforcement often has reasons for pulling a person over. But it’s not uncommon for an officer to overstep their boundaries and pull someone over for no reason. It is important that those being pulled over know their rights.
