Man Convicted of Cheating at Craps, Swindling Atlantic City NJ Casino

When will people learn that, in the end, cheating doesn’t pay? Apparently, for some, it takes a conviction and possible jail time.

This is the case for a repeat NJ offender whose trial concluded in early June with him being found guilty of third degree and fourth degree swindling and cheating at casino gaming. The penalties for swindling and cheating vary, depending upon the amount allegedly stolen. In this case, the defendant could face up to five years in New Jersey State Prison when he is ultimately sentenced.

The New Jersey man, 57 of Bayonne, was accused of waiting until the winning numbers had been determined before placing his bets at the craps tables. According to prosecutors, the defendant did this at three different Atlantic City casinos: the Borgata Hotel & Casino, Resorts Hotel & Casino, and Revel Casino.

The defendant placed a bet totaling $1,100 at a Borgata craps table in August 2013. Surveillance footage showed that he made the bet after the dice had already left the shooter’s hand. Although the defendant collected the winnings from the bet and cashed out, he was detained by casino security the following day.

Just two weeks later, the defendant placed a bet for $505 at a craps table at Resorts Hotel. This time, the casino refused to pay the bet because they said that the defendant had made the bet after the winning number was determined.

Just one day later, the defendant tried to do the same thing at a Revel craps table. Once again, the defendant was detained by police and charged with cheating.
